Penske is the reliability favorite for long moves. Owners repeatedly pick it for cross-country hauls — cleaner, better-maintained trucks, and sometimes hundreds cheaper than U-Haul on a one-way. A common strategy: Penske for the distance, U-Haul for local.
U-Haul is cheap and everywhere — but condition varies wildly. It’s the default for local moves, yet complaints about dirty, beat-up trucks are common (even a company rep concedes a “lazy dealer” can send a bad one out). Inspect the truck before you drive off.
