
This one isn’t a story, it’s a look under the hood. People ask how we rank blenders, and the honest answer starts with what we ignore: wattage. It’s the biggest number on the box and the weakest predictor of a good blend. A high-wattage motor driving a bad blade geometry just makes an expensive noise.
Here’s what we actually test. First, the “green smoothie” test: kale, frozen fruit, and a fixed amount of liquid, blended for a fixed time, then we measure how much fibrous grit is left. This is where cheap blenders fail — they chop instead of pulverize, and you drink the difference.
Second, thermal behavior on hot soup and on nut butters, where a weak motor bogs down and a poorly vented one overheats and cuts out. Third, the unglamorous stuff: how well it self-cleans with a drop of soap and water, and how stable the jar is at full speed instead of walking across the counter.
We weight the blend-quality tests highest because that’s the reason you own a blender, and we weight noise and cleanup as real but secondary. Wattage appears in our spec table for reference and carries almost no scoring weight, which occasionally makes people angry until they taste the grit test.
